- 1 bay leaf cut into two
- 1/3 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/3 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 Tbsp ghee
- 2 pinch asafoetida (hing)
Instructions to make to make Dal Khichdi
- Soak dals and rice. Arrange the ingredients.
- Heat ghee in a pan/ pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds and hing. Allow to splutter cumin seeds.
- Add onion and fry till translucent.
- Mix ginger, garlic and green chilli. Saute till rawness is gone.
- Add tomatoes, salt and turmeric. Mix well and saute.
- Mix bay leaves, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Add 2tsp water and saute well.
- Add the chopped veggies and saute for a minute to mix with masala.
- Pour 3 cups of water. Transfer to cooker. Mix soaked dals and rice. Add garam masala. Mix well.
- Let the contents in cooker boil. Pressure cook for 1 whistle in high flame. Then cook for 3 minutes on low flame.
When cool down naturally, serve the hot, aromatic and delicious dal khichdi with curd raita.
